I'm real into competition so, I thought it might be fun to start a little game here for the members. What I've done is created a timed exercise using 14 different (5fret) block patterns of the Major Scale. Below are 10 links to the game. The first link is a sheet with all 14 pattern frames you can print out to practice with. The other 9 are to the game levels. Each higher level gets faster. The speed ranges are 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3 and 2 seconds between frames. Your goal is to see how fast you can play up and back down the pattern shown without making mistakes on any of the 14 frames.

How to Play:
When you click on a level, an image of a fret board with the first inversion on it and the word "READY?" will open and hold for 5 seconds. Then a count down will start "3" "2" "1" "GO". Then the game begins.

Objective:
Make it through all 14 frames, up and down the scale, without making any mistakes at the highest level possible.

Level 1 = 15 seconds http://members.cox.net/string.bender/15seconds.gif
Level 2 = 13 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/13seconds.gif
Level 3 = 11 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/11seconds.gif
Level 4 = 09 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/09seconds.gif
Level 5 = 07 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/07seconds.gif
Level 6 = 05 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/05seconds.gif
Level 7 = 04 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/04seconds.gif
Level 8 = 03 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/03seconds.gif
Level 9 = 02 seconds--http://members.cox.net/string.bender/02seconds.gif

The levels are gif files so if you are on a slow connection, you can just download the files and play from your hard drive.

Yeah! Critique it for me and let me know if you think it's worth creating other games for modes and different scales.

This is a great workout!

I can do the four second really clean and the 3 second with only minor mis fingerings. I really think I can get the 3 second and even the 2 second down cleanly once I learn the order the finger patterns appear.

Great Idea!

This needs to be sticky'd

That's awesome!
I had been doing a simular exercise for awhile, before I took my break, and I still get real sloppy when I hit the root 4's and 3's at 3 seconds.
